Chili Recipes
I have used this chili recipe for years and it is always a favorite for my family and friends. It is a great make ahead recipe for parties or to take to a potluck.
Ingredients
3 Tablespoons Olive oil
1 large onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
3 cups water
1 1/3 cups canned tomatoes, crushed
1 whole green pepper, minced
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, ground
1 teaspoon cumin seed, crushed
1 small bay leaf
2 Tablespoons chili powder
1/8 teaspoon basil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 can 15.5 oz kidney beans (optional)
Directions
Heat oil in skillet, add onion, garlic and saute until golden brown. Add meat and brown.
Transfer meat mixture to large saucepan and add the remaining ingredients. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered until the sauce is as thick as desired, or about 3 hours.
If desired, add one can of kidney beans just before serving.
